I’m Terrance Hedgepeth, Founder and Lead Network Engineer of Designer Technologies LLC. I was born and raised in Trenton, New Jersey, by a single mother who noticed my love for computers early. I was building them and fixing people’s PCs for pocket money.
The summer between my junior and senior year, she paid for an A+ and Network+ program at a technical institute in Elizabeth, New Jersey. By summer’s end, I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
I graduated from Trenton Central High School in 2003, then studied network engineering at Mercer County Community College. I didn’t attend a four-year school.
My first tech job was ten hours a week as a technology assistant for a New Jersey school district. I worked security jobs to make ends meet. I reset passwords, rebuilt machines, and cleaned every computer with a shop vac before school started. I found my first mentor there.
Corporate help desk roles followed. My break came when a network hire didn’t work out and a former boss vouched for me to join the network team. I spent years in enterprise networking and security, often as a contractor. Each role was another stage of an apprenticeship: learn it, master it, move up.
I founded Designer Technologies in 2017, taking on projects alongside my enterprise jobs. After mastering my craft, I wanted to own my work and build equity in it. In January 2026, I went full-time.
Our mission is to give small and medium-sized businesses enterprise-level care at a fraction of the cost. Many friends own businesses. They have the vision but need help.
For me, trust starts with protecting infrastructure and safeguarding customers’ data. That’s how you earn it.
My mother has since passed. I do this to keep her legacy moving forward. Every step traces back to the door she opened.
